1. HELP! I clicked on your SUBSCRIBE BUTTON (which was re-directing me to the SECURE website) but I'm getting "THE PAGE CANNOT BE DISPLAYED" and/or "CANNOT FIND SERVER OR DNS ERROR" -- Why?
A: There is a "bug" in many versions of Microsoft's Internet Explorer that is causing errors when displaying 'secure' (SSL) web pages. Here are some suggestions to resolve the problem (please try ONE at a time):

i. When you receive the error page, try hitting your REFRESH button (on menu bar) as this may cause the page to load correctly.

ii. Make sure your Security settings are correctly configured. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section and put a check in the boxes for SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, and PCT 1.0.

iii. Check Microsoft's Knowledge Base... here are the links:

Cannot Gain Access to Certain Secure Web Sites http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q246/7/25.ASP
Err Msg: Internet Explorer Cannot Open the Internet Site... http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q188/8/39.ASP
Programs and Services that Use SSL or SSPI May Not Work After You Install Internet Explorer 5.01 http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q247/3/67.ASP
Error Messages When You Try to Log On to a Secure Web Site if Registry Key Is Damaged or Invalid http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q259/5/37.ASP

iv. Upgrade your version of Internet Explorer here.

2. How long do I have to subscribe for? And how do I CANCEL?
A: The minimum length of time is one month; at which point you can cancel any time. And cancellation is easy! Just visit http://www.usenet-access.com/rebill.htm to cancel your current account. You can also contact our tech support if you have any problems or questions regarding your account. If you need a copy of your login and password, you don't have to cancel -- just contact us and we'll be happy to provide another copy.

3. What is the address to your server?

A: NEWS.Usenet-Access.com . For security and performance reasons it does not accept PING or TRACEROUTE commands. If you're concerned about connecting to it, please contact us. We monitor this server 24x7x365 to ensure reliability, uptime and consistency.

4. When I go to download a group I do not get as many article headers as my newsreader reports are available, why?

A: Most newsreaders determine how many articles are available in a group by performing a calculation of the difference between the highest and lowest article ID number. On DNews (the news server software we use) this calculation is seldom accurate. We will continue to nag the makers of DNews until this error is corrected.

5. Some newsgroups seems to be expiring very quickly, why?

A: The rate of article expiration will vary by group and will depend on the amount and size of new articles coming in. This is especially true for binaries groups. We do not set limits on retention time, the only limitation is the amount of disk space available.

If retention/completion are very important to you, try our upgraded service at Newsgroup-Binaries.com - offering the best in speed, completion and retention. Give it a try as it's ranked #1 for usenet NNTP providers!

6. Do I have to use a newsreader to access your newsgroups?

A: No, we have a Web-To-News gateway both for PC users and WebTV users. All that is required is a web browser. To log in using your web browser (via our web newsgroups gateway), click here.

But if you choose to use a newsreader, we support ANY and ALL software versions available on the internet! You may want to check out this service as well:

Newsgroup-Binaries.com - NNTP-only service offering the best in speed, completion and retention -- all in the interest of participating in Usenet newsgroup discussions. An excellent service for DSL, Cable, FIOS and faster Internet connections - Ranked #1 for usenet NNTP providers!

7. Do you offer limits higher than 2GB/day?

A: Yes. In fact we can customize pretty much any type of limit you might need to actively participate in the Usenet newsgroup discussion forums. Click on the CONTACT link at the top of the webpage and let us know what you need, and we can provide the pricing. There's no need to re-subscribe in most cases; we can usually just upgrade your existing log-in and password.

8. Some articles that I post from Usenet-Access.com do not seem to propagate to other news servers, why?

A: Another news server may be canceling them. We can take no further responsibility for articles not propagating once they have been sent through the newsserver. Another reason could be if you have a record of abuse on our servers your posting access may have been disabled. Once your posting access has been disabled due to posting abuse it will never be restored, so don't even ask. Nor will we issue refunds for this reason.

9. I'm new to newsgroups -- what do I need?

A: We always recommend using a third-party newsreader application to access the newsgroups. You can download a free versions for Windows, Macintosh, Linux, Unix, etc. at Newsreaders.info If you cannot use a third-party newsreader, you can access our web-browser-accessible news server here -- just enter your LOGIN AND PASSWORD when prompted. If you need additional assistance, please let us know.

10. Do you support all newsreader software applications?

A: Our service supports all newsreader software applications available. Some of the more popular newsreaders are Outlook Express, WinVN, Free Agent, NewsReactor, NewsRover, and Xnews.

11. I would like to create a brand new newsgroup, how can I do this?

A: If the newsgroup will be in a hierarchy such as REC or SCI it will first have to be voted on by The Usenet Volunteer Votetakers . Please see the following URL for instructions: http://www.faqs.org/faqs/usenet/creating-newsgroups/part1
